Strapless Shapewear – Look Good In Any Outfit!

White Wedding Gown

Today, many women are wearing shapewear to get the “perfect figure” with the right curves and still look slim and sleek. Strapless Shapewear

There are many types of shapewear in the market. The kind of shapewear to wear is really up to the individual.

It depends greatly on which area/areas does individual wants more support or control.

There are also situations where we need to wear shapewear to match the kind of outfit we are wearing.

Some outfit might require STRAPLESS SHAPEWEAR.

Why Do We Need Strapless Shapewear?

The main purpose of wearing shapewear (whether strapless or not) as an undergarment is to achieve that fabulous figure without any visible trace of the shapewear itself!

The undergarment is supposed to remain hidden under any clothing.

This is also the reason why women with lighter skin tone prefer their shapewear to be in nude color as nude color has the closest resemblance to their skin color.

Women with darker skin tone can choose shapewear with either darker nude color or black color.

A good shapewear with the right size is supposed to provide a seamless look which flows smoothly without anyone noticing that you are wearing a shapewear!

When we are wearing off-shoulder tops, dresses or spaghetti stripes clothing, a strapless option would be more appropriate for a cleaner look.

White Bridal Gown

Some other dresses such as wedding dresses and gowns can sometimes be more revealing – such as the low-back or backless gowns.

When wearing such outfits, we certainly do not want to reveal those unsightly straps.

Revealing these straps will definitely ‘destroy’ the overall look.

This is something which we do not want whether we are attending casual or formal event.

By choosing to wear a strapless body shaper, we can easily achieve a well-contoured figure and not revealing the unsightly straps at the same time.

What Is Strapless Body Shaper?

Most strapless body shaper come with detachable straps which are adjustable.

Personally, I prefer this type of body shaper as I like to have the option to wear or not to wear the straps.

If you intend to wear the straps, there are usually a few ways in which you can wear them.

You can choose to wear the straps crisscross, halter or even one-shoulder!

It will be an added advantage if the strapless body shaper can come with clear detachable straps.

The clear straps will benefit women who feel insecure wearing strapless body shaper.

These women can then opt to wear the clear straps which are less obvious.

However, personally, I prefer not to go with any straps if I am wearing an off-shoulder outfit.

What Are The Types Of Strapless Body Shaper?

Strapless body shaper comes in a variety of designs to cater to different needs or outfit. Below are some of the more popular types of strapless body shaper.

Firstly, we have Corset and Bustier

Corset comes with steel boned structure and therefore, is able to cinch the midsection and waist of the body.

Corsets usually provide firmer control. The good thing is modern corsets are made of stretchable material and this provides a balance between control and comfort.

Bustier, as the name implies, has the additional feature of lifting and boosting the breasts while still providing shaping for the torso and the waists.

Next, we have the Shapewear Bodysuits and Shapewear Slips.

These are shapewear which provides control from as high as the busts to the hips or thighs. They provide overall shaping for the body.

For women who like to wear their own bra, choose bodysuits which start lower, for instance, from between the busts and the waist to the hips or thighs.

Shapewear Bodysuits can come in shorts and thongs.

For bodysuits with thongs, shaping will be up to the hips or butts.

On the other hand, for bodysuits which come with shorts, shaping and control will be extended further to either the upper or lower thighs, depending on how long the shorts is.

Then we have the Shapewear Slips.

Similar to shapewear bodysuit, Shapewear Slips also provide overall shaping for the body.

The only difference is shapewear slips come in the form of stretchable tight-fitting skirt instead of shorts and thongs.

For those who need extra support for the busts, there is also the option of getting the shapers with underwired-support.

Other Features of Strapless Body Shaper

Strapless body shaper can be backless or low back. This is great when wearing backless outfits or outfit with low back. Purple Evening Gowns

Backless or low-back shapers usually comes with an adhesive silicone layer on the top of the shaper.

This layer will stick to the skin and will provide the needed support due to the lack of support at the back, as compared to shapers which comes with straps or back coverage.

This adhesive layer is made with medical grade silicone.

What To Take Note When Choosing Strapless Backless/Low-Back Shaper ?

When looking for strapless shaper which is also backless or low-back, it is important to get a piece with good quality.

This is because an inferior quality shaper might come with adhesive silicone which not only contains harmful substances but also does not stick to the skin when there is sweat on the area which the adhesive is supposed to stick to.

When this happens, there is a risk of the shaper slipping down.

In addition, women with bigger breasts might also find the shaper falling down due to the lack of support, something which we definitely do not want to happen!

Good quality shapers should make the wearer feel secure.

Even when the wearer is engaged in activities such as dancing, the shaper should not slip down.

Shaper with good quality adhesive silicon also means that the adhesive will remain sticky for a long time.

Choosing the right size is also crucial as it means the shaper will be more snugly and fitting and this in turn, will provide the necessary support and security.

Therefore, a good quality strapless shaper wth the right size will ensure that the shaper remains secure throughout the day!

  1. Wow, I did not know shapewear existed. It definitely gives me a better understanding of what it is and the different types now.

Personally I like all natural but I could understand why a woman would want to look her best and wear this. I got a new perspective today. Thanks for sharing.

  2. I’ve had an interest in shape wear for some time now, but didn’t know much about it & just wasn’t sure if it was for me. You’ve put me that much closer to buying shape wear because I know that there are more choices than just waist shapers.

This is quite informative, thanks for sharing it.

  3. What an informative post. I love a good tummy control strapless shapewear. Although in the past I have had experiences with uncomfortable shapewear that liked to slip down. Your post gave me more insight on what to look for. Thanks for sharing!

  4. I love the idea of shapewear and never realised how many different types are available. I think most of us can benefit from a shapewear garment, turning a not so perfect figure into one that’s slim and elegant with all the right curves. Thank you for sharing.

  5. I have issues with shapers sliding down all the time. It has discouraged me from wearing them. Then again, I have always gotten my shapers from discount stores. It could have been that it was cheap lining as you point out in this post.
Do you have any recommendations on where to get a good shaper?

I have several outfits I would love to wear but can’t. Thank you for your advice.

  6. Cool, now I can have an idea for which one to go for. I had used some in the past. They tend to slip off even the ones where it had a plastic lining so it won’t slip, it slipped.

Now there are so many options I can choose from. I think I might try it again. Thanks for the post.

  7. This sounds like a product I could benefit from greatly.

After I had my last baby I was the smallest I have ever been in my adult life, but postpartum depression caught up with me and by the time my son was 3 months my depression became so severe that all I could do was sleep and eat. By the time my son was 5 months old, I had gained 40 lbs. 40lbs in about 6-8 weeks.

So now I am so unhappy with how I look and the shapewear seems like the perfect thing to make feel better about my body until I lose all my weight.

Thanks for this intro to shapewear for me. I will be shopping after I hit post for this comment.

  8. I was thinking about using shape ware, but whenever I have tried it The wiring bends over and is very painful as it pokes me. I may have to try some higher quality ones. Isn’t it pretty hot to add this layer, though?

    1. Hi Jordan, majority of the better quality shapewear are made of breathable materials! They are usually rather comfortable. Thank you so much for reading!

  9. Oh but that’s fantastic! I have been looking for strapless shapewear for ages! I rarely wear dresses, but I have to attend a wedding in Scotland soon, and I will wear a dress with no sleeves, nor ‘shoulders’. Your article is just perfect! Thanks a lot for this thorough article. Cheers! Anso

  10. I didn’t know strapless body shapers existed … I love to wear dresses with a lower back or strapless dresses, but I never know what bra to wear underneath. I am smallchested, so it is not ideal for me to go braless under dresses … I will definitely look into those body shapers, they look amazing! And they seem pretty sturdy and comfortable 🙂

  11. Wow Lynz,

Shapewear, that’s what it’s called these days. Many moons ago, we wore girdles; a garment you did not want to even think about. Painful, left you breathless; as in you couldn’t breathe, left you itchy and wrinkled. I could go on, but suffice it to say, I stopped wearing them.

Now, though, I have lost a lot of weight and would like to see what’s left more evenly distributed. I did not know that through the years so many “advances” had been made, so thank you for the heads-up. Shapewear seems to be the new way to go, I can wear that nice halter dress I was looking at. Maybe I can even wear a cool new swimsuit.

Thanks for the info on the different kinds of shapewear. Who knows; maybe I can begin to look “slim, trim, and beautiful”.
